Hello! My name is Shelly Nowlin and I am so happy to be joining the Kindergarten team at OTE this year! The 2019-2020 school year will be my 14th year of teaching, and 6th year at OTE.
Education & Professional Background
I was born and raised in Champaign, Illinois (home of the Fighting Illini / University of Illinois). I received my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois, and a few years later completed my masters degree in Educational Administration at William Woods University in Missouri.
I began my career teaching kindergarten in my hometown of Champaign, Illinois. My family relocated to Columbia, Missouri to accommodate my husband’s job in 2009. While in Columbia, I had the privilege of working at Alpha Hart Lewis Elementary, where I taught both kindergarten and 5th grade. I also completed my administration internship and graduate program while in Columbia.
My family moved to Spring Hill, Kansas the summer of 2013 when my husband accepted a position with Quality Structures, a building company based out of Richmond, Kansas. We welcomed our youngest daughter just nine days before this move, and I was fortunate enough to take a school year off to spend at home with her. The following year I began teaching 5th grade at Overland Trail.
Josh and I have been married for 16 years, and together we have 4 amazing children that keep us on our toes, and never looking for something to fill our time. Our son Nicholas is 20 and is beginning adulthood. Alayna, our oldest daughter, is 15 and is a sophomore at Spring Hill High School. Our middle daughter, Isabelle, is 11 and beginning her middle school years. Harper, our baby, is 6 and will be in 1st grade at Wolf Creek. This past year we were blessed to gain a Spanish daughter, Elene, for 10 months through foreign exchange. Although Elene left in May, she is definitely a part of the Nowlin family! Most of our free time is spent at cheerleading, dance, gymnastics, softball, orchestra concerts, or track meets, but when there is a rare free night, we enjoy to travel, go to movies, find new areas of KC to explore, and just spend time together as a family.
